Top Decorating Trends of 2021
1. Beige/Greige:
The first trend I see for 2021 is neutrals are warming up! We will still see gray and white, but the undertones will be a lot warmer than before. Sometimes, grays can lean toward the cool/sterile feeling side. In reaction to this, we are craving slightly warmer neutrals (but still truly neutral of course!)
“Greige” is a truly “neutral” neutral. It can go with warm color palettes as well as cool and creates a sense of calm and balance.
I personally am super happy about the warm neutrals!! I love me some warm, cozy undertones! 🙂
2. Wallpaper:
Wallpaper was a big trend in 2020 and for 2021 I see it being even bigger! Wallpaper can be used in so many different places to add color, pattern, or even texture. Think walls (obviously), bookcases, accent walls, to ceilings.
This year I plan to re-wallpaper my guest bathroom. It has toile wallpaper in there now, so I plan to update the look a little. I’ll do a post about it so you can follow along!
3. Olive Trees:
Olive trees are becoming increasingly popular! I have seen them popping up in pictures all over Pinterest and Instagram. I have to say that I ❤️ them! The colors of the leaves are so classic and earthy, they go with everything! So, if you have an empty space and need something to fill it with, I suggest and olive tree!
4. Light Wood:
Remember the days when extremely dark floors were all the rage? (Does anyone use that phrase anymore??) Yeah, those are out! Everything is going to a lighter, more airy feel and this includes our wood tones. Light wood can be found not only on floors, but also for headboards, coffee tables, decorative items, etc.
5. Practical Decorative Items:
In your kitchen store plates and dishes you use daily out in the open. Somewhere like open shelving. This makes them easy to access, but also if they are used regularly, it’s easier to keep the area clean and dust free. In your bathroom think: a canister of cotton balls, a colorful display of headbands, or hang some jewelry as wall art.
6. Organic Materials:
During these unusual times, (yes, pandemic, I’m looking at you!) we are craving anything that connects us to nature. Materials like: wicker/rattan, natural silk, hemp, cork, marble, & terrazzo have been on the incline lately.
7. Hygge is here to stay!
When I think of Hygge (pronounced Hoo-ga) I think it can be described in one word: COZY. Coziness in our homes is not going anywhere for 2021. As I mentioned earlier, these unusual times have us craving specific atmospheres. We want, more than ever, for our homes to serve as our retreat, an escape if you will. That is one reason I don’t see this trend ending in 2021.
There you have it! Those are the top trends I see for 2021. Hope you enjoyed! 🙂
